Ankle boots, leather jackets, and Pumpkin Latte are all reasons to love the fall. Dry, dull skin, however, is not on that list. As the weather gets cooler, our skin needs an extra dose of moisture, as it begins to get dryer and dryer. Hyaluronic acid (Sodium hyaluronate) is my go-to ingredient for hydrating skin. You’ve probably seen this ingredient in several beauty product ads.
Hyaluronic acid is a natural molecule in the skin that helps maintain hydration because it absorbs up to 1,000 times its weight in water. It basically serves as a big drink of water for your face, while plumping and smoothing fine lines. This ingredient is found in serums and moisturizers. Some of our favorite hydrating products include PCA SKIN Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Serum, Skinceuticals HA Intensifier, and Skinceuticals Hydrating B5 Gel.
Other ways to hydrate your skin during the fall include:
- Drinking adequate amounts of water each day
- Use a creamy cleanser that contains glycerin
- Use moisturizers containing glycerin, ceramides and Hyaluronic acid
- Exfoliate twice a week (to remove dead skin cells that contribute to dryness and dullness)
- Use hydrating masks weekly
If you haven’t already, it may be time to switch up your skincare regimen for the fall weather.
